Positive Affirmations: What the heck are they?

Positive affirmations: we all probably have heard of them, but what the heck are they? Can they actually help? Telling yourself how awesome you are, how strong you are can seem very arrogant. But positive affirmation are definitely in the spotlight for a reason. They can do wonders for self-esteem, self-worth and more importantly a positive mindset.


A person's mindset can can be changed pretty dramatically when their thoughts can shift from negative to positive. It can improve outlook, confidence, and motivation. When times are tough, being able to grab a list of positive affirmations can create an outlook that allows an individual to move from "meh" to "yes." In this blog post, I want to all the things you need to know about affirmation and how you can incorporate them into your life.


First, like the title asks, what the heck are they? Affirmations are basically positive reminders or statements that a person can use to be encouraged or motivated. It's pretty simple when you read it, right? A bit more challenging to put into practice. It is so much easier to affirm others but can be super tough to affirm ourselves. The most important takeway in this post would be to ensure whatever affirmations that you develop for yourself, they need to be statements that make you feel better-not worse. Create statements that reflect on you, your life, your values. It can be easier said then done, I know. I've included a list below to help get those creative juices flowing. Which ones speak to you the most?


  1. I give permission to do what is right for me.

  2. I give myself the care and attention I deserve.

  3. I will forgive myself and others.

  4. I am resilient, strong, and brave. I cannot be destroyed.

  5. Nobody but me decides how I feel.

  6. I accept and love myself unconditionally.

  7. I opt to rise above negative thoughts. I am strong.

  8. I give myself space to grow and learn.

  9. I trust that I am on the right path.

  10. I am at peace with who I am as a person.
